I called this post bubbles because the finished product reminded me of bubbles.
I started by copying a mandala from the coloring book section of Susanne F. Fincher’s book Creating Mandalas with Sacred Geometry.
I wanted to recreate on my 18X24 inch sketchpad.
This mandala is based on the flower of life design that I wrote about here. It fascinated me because some of the overlapping lines of the flower of life are missing. I did not see a pattern in which one’s were drawn and which one’s were not. I wanted to explore and find my way. My first couple of attempts resulted in my drawing part of the design which were not in the book. In the sketch below I began focusing on drawing the six overlapping circles that moved outward first then filling in the circles that are added in the fourth round.
Finally, with a protractor, a bit of freehand and with an eraser, I was able to draw the mandala at a good scale for my sketchpad. When I colored it, it reminded me of bubbles.
