My new baby mandala blog, born in 2022, now has 12 posts. Today, Friday the 13th, I am doing the 13th.
Is 13 an unlucky number?, I do not really know. It certainly has that reputation which causes us to put on it the expectation for all kinds of bad things happening. On the other hand, I am sure there are some people that find it lucky.
I tried to think of how to make a Friday the 13th mandala. Something with 13 points, each separated by approximately 27 degrees, seemed overly complicated. I played with the idea of superimposing a six pointed star over a seven pointed star, also overly complicated.
One characteristic of Friday the 13th, as understood in popular culture, is that the energy is strong and can be sudden and jarring. Discordant colors seemed called for.
I found three examples in Mandala Coloring Magic from Action Publishing that I did last year.
The colors of these mandalas are strong and would not work together in many circumstances. I found it was possible to work them into a cohesive design. Working with strong colors such as these can be particularly satisfying when one is feeling out of sorts.
Gray adds a seriousness or somberness to my third example.
