I really enjoy using ColorIt Coloring Books. My first was volume three of their mandala books. After i finished volume three I went on to volume one. Yesterday, I opened volume two and colored the first mandala. Most of the time I work my way sequentially through a book and work with one book at a time.
ColorIt coloring books are high end. The pages are extra thick so that paint pens do not bleed through. Some of the things that I look for are that pages are printed on one side and that the book is spiral bound. ColorIt takes this a step further by putting the spiral binding at the top of the page. I often turn the book as I am working and the top spiral binding makes it more comfortable. Since the cover is also extra thick the book can stand to form its own easel. I prefer to have it flat when coloring but this is very nice for displaying finished mandalas.
Since I was starting a new book I also decided to switch from using the Tombow water color pens that i have been using for the past few months and to use colored pencils for a while. I got out my trusty Prismacolor pencils for this. Some of these are very well used so it was like returning to an old friend.
The above is the mandala after the fourth round. The book is standing on the table without any support.
The mandala became very watery, the outer half reminded me of a landscape with many waterways with beaches and of staircases through the landscape.
I have colored many mandalas with a similar color palette. The pencils I am using attest to that. But, each one is unique and has offered its own unique experience.
